Everyone at Newport RFC was sad to hear of the passing of Richie Donovan. Richie was a very popular player and respected throughout the Gwent rugby community.
Newport RFC player, captain and coach Gareth Evans commented, ‘He knew about his illness for quite a while and it was borne with terrific dignity and bravery. As one of the most popular players of his era, numerous supportive events were held in the past few months, testament to the esteem in which he was held. A former Newport High School pupil, he was a legend at Cross Keys, with a few appearances for Newport and other Gwent clubs, he was a hard uncompromising prop and one of rugby’s good guys. He will be sadly missed.’
Newport RFC send their condolences to Richie’s family and many friends.
