Marking big milestones can also be a time to start thinking differently and, as Newport RFC moves in to its 150th season, the club has partnered with two companies who have supplied sustainable drinks cup for its thirsty supporters and visitors on match days, that is also an unique way to promote ‘The Newport Way’ – the club’s set of values.
Match days can see many single-use plastic glasses being used and, with the emphasis on reducing this use, Newport RFC approached two UK-based suppliers to help with this issue for the upcoming anniversary season.
Just Peel have produced a bespoke anniversary season cup from their cupapeel range which uses multi award-winning Delipac material, a sustainable paper board.
Just Peel are at the forefront of changing how event organisers provide more sustainable solutions in this field. It has revolutionised the market with its innovative product, cupapeel – a natural paper alternative to traditional single-use plastics. Unlike traditional paper cups which are lined with plastics, cupapeel cups are fully recyclable, home-compostable, and biodegradable.
The benefits of cupapeel extend beyond their end-of-life disposal. Often, plastic cups are imported from overseas or passed through numerous distributors before reaching their destination, which is inefficient and environmentally taxing. In contrast, Just Peel’s cups are printed and formed here in Wales, meaning they only travel directly from the factory to the event site. This minimises unnecessary transportation, making the supply chain more efficient and sustainable.
The cups are made from paper board manufactured using Delipac material, a product that is plastic free, so no internal plastic laminate or liner and therefore leaves no aftertaste or odour. It’s both commercially sustainable and environmentally sustainable – paper engineering at its very best.
Printed on the cups is ‘The Newport Way’ which outlines the clubs values of ‘commitment, respect, teamwork, integrity, excellence and community’, along with a special 150th version of the club’s proud crest.
Newport RFC Director, Delme Beddow, said:- “It’s so pleasing to be able to mark our 150th season milestone with new initiatives which also help us do our bit for the environment. We’re delighted with the cups – as well as being more sustainable, they’re another great vehicle for us to be able to promote the values of Newport RFC. It’s a great way of shouting about what we stand for and we’re hoping that our supporters join us by adopting these values, too.
“We’d like to thank Alison Hobson from Just Peel and Mark Hirlam from Delipac, in particular, for supporting the club with their advice and guidance – both have been extremely positive and helpful. By sponsoring the cups too, both companies have made this idea a reality.”
