It’s a quick turnaround for the Black & Ambers as they prepare to face a Pontypool outfit who got back on track with a fine win against RGC. With Poola the wrong end of the SRC league table they are bound to make a big effort to put down a marker in the SRC Cup and they don’t need any incentive when their opponents are Newport.
After a poor start to the game in Carmarthen, 12 – nil down after ten minutes, our boys held out until half time and then changed up a gear to score forty unanswered points – with all 52 points scored playing against the wind. It was very pleasing to see Morgan Burgess scoring a try on his 50th game and taking opposition ball in the lineout.
Once again the coaches rotate the squad with eight changes to the starting fifteen.
Newport: Tom Devine, Henry Palmer, Garin Harris, Josh Skinner, Callum Bradbury, Ioan Rhys Davies, Hunter Ward, Ben Roach Captain, Lucus Welch, Jac Lloyd, Morgan Williams, Joe Westwood, Harrison James, Fin Baker, Carwyn Penny.
Replacements: Aneurin Jenkins, Tom Workman, Luke Yendle, Kobi Rhys, Teihi Chatham, Dafydd Buckland, Noah Morgan, Lloyd Lewis.
Kick-off: 7:30 on Thursday 29th January
Venue: Newport Stadium, Newport Sports Village.
