I would like to offer some clarification regarding the statement made in recent social media video clips. As a lifelong supporter of Welsh rugby, my passion sometimes runs ahead of me, and in this instance, I did not express myself as clearly as I should have.To be absolutely clear, I do not necessarily agree with the proposal for Welsh rugby to reduce to two professional teams. What I do believe, however, is that change is needed. We cannot continue to lose fans and players season after season, and it saddens me deeply to see the love for our national game diminish over the past few decades.
For me, this is a pivotal moment where the union has a real opportunity to fund and grow the game properly across Wales. I also believe there is huge potential for the Super Rugby Cymru to play a big role in strengthening Welsh rugby, and we remain fully committed to supporting our professional teams.
Importantly, we will continue to support our relationship with the Dragons, and support them in their resolve to play a major role in the future of Welsh rugby, which has always been a key part of our journey.Above all, my hope as a passionate rugby man is that the right decision is made for the long-term love and future of rugby in Wales.
