Rhys ‘Jenko’ Jenkins has retired from rugby and thrown his boots into the River Usk along with his close friend Elliot Frewen .
After a long and successful career at Newport RFC that lasted 14 seasons, the 34 year old has retired from playing but made his intentions clear to still remain an active part of the black and amber family.
Rhys was a member of the Dragons Academy in his younger days and made his debut against Swansea on 11/9/10. He missed the whole of the 2012/13 season through injury but went on to score 15 tries in black and amber in 230 games. Rhys retires as the most clubs longest serving player at this present time.
Rhys was presented with a framed Newport RFC 150th jersey by Matt O’Brien and in his speech at the end of season dinner, he was kind in praise to many and also joked about the number of stitches he’d received tackling players that ‘OB’ had missed!
Already inducted in the club Hall Fame, it’s good to know that Jenko and his family will still be around the club .
