NEWPORT vs NEATH

Neath are the visitors on Saturday, and it will be great to see those all-black jerseys out on the pitch to play the Black & Ambers.  The last times these teams met were in season 2018-19 when Newport just held on in the away fixture for a 20-17 victory but had a big win in the return.  It was such a close game at the Gnoll with the home side getting a five-metre line-out in the 8th minute of injury time only for Mathew (Wibble) Reed to snatch the ball and run to the halfway line to seal the win.  Neath had problems that season and lost a lot of players, but they earned much respect for completing their fixtures.  Welcome, Neath, good to see you back.

As much as Neath need a victory, Newport wants it more.  After a great start to the season, they have lost the last two games, albeit to the two top teams.  Injuries and unavailability in certain positions have hit hard and, once again, the coaching team is unable to select from a full squad.

Team will be selected after Thursday’s training session.
