NEWPORT RFC v CRAWSHAY’S XV PREVIEW

After four hard-fought SRC League games the Black & Ambers will be glad that the pressure is off when they face a Crawshay’s XV at Rodney Parade on Friday evening.  Four games where 23 points were achieved out of a possible 24 has taken its toll and several players need a break as they prepare for an important league play-off quarter-final next weekend.

Crawshay’s is an established invitational team and many famous players have worn the jersey.  Well known for the spirit in which they play the game and their sportsmanship.  Our very own Brian BJ Jones often reminisced about the West Country tours with Crawshay’s and how the off-field adventures were often even more entertaining than the games.  But don’t be misled, their team contains many very good players and they will be looking for a win.

The need to rest players gives the Newport coaching team the opportunity to look at several promising youngsters, some from local clubs and two from Tonga!
