Sam Hobbs has joined Newport RFC as assistant forwards coach in a move to bolster the backroom team lead by Ty Morris. Ty already has Stuart Lawrence and James Dixon in his coaching team as well as Chris Jones heading up Strength & Conditioning. When Sam became available Ty was quick to move and secure his services.
Sam propped in well over 100 games for Cardiff Blues and another 40+ for The Dragons as well as being called up into the full Welsh squad after U19 and U20 appearances. Now involved in coaching the Dragons Academy Sam is well in tune with the skills required to develop our talented group of youngsters as well as being an extra set of scouting eyes for new and emerging talent.
Ty commented, ‘Sam has a huge amount of experience, not just on the playing field but in more recent years as a respected regional academy coach. His immediate attention to detail has impressed everyone and we look forward to him becoming established in the Newport RFC family.’
Newport play their first friendly fixture of the season on Saturday at Pontypridd. Kick off at 1430.
