Saturday’s league play-off final was Matt O’Brien’s 200th in the famous black and amber jersey of Newport RFC.
‘OB’ has been an inspirational player for Newport over the seasons and is probably the best ’10’ in the league by some distance with his range of abilities to get his team attacking from all areas of the field.
Matt has scored 46 tries for the club since his debut in 2013 and also kicked a massive 300 conversions and 159 penalties to give him a points total of 1326, which is second in the clubs history to Dan Griffiths with his 1551. Will he catch him next season?
Matt was presented with his match shirt by Newport RFC President Brian ‘BJ’ Jones.
