After a run of four wins, three of them away, Newport now face their toughest test – a trip to Ebbw Vale on a cold, wet February evening to face a side that is unbeaten at home this season. But there is a bit more than the usual rivalry at stake on Thursday. Ebbw Vale currently hold the SRC Challenge Trophy, having snatched it away from Llandovery in October with a narrow victory at Church Bank. If the Black & Ambers get the win then they take the trophy, and with only two home league games to play, both at Rodney parade, they would have a great opportunity to hold on to it.
With both teams having a quick turn around after Saturday, the coaches haven’t had much time to prepare but both teams know what to expect from their opposition. Let’s hope that it’s a good game in front of the TV cameras.
