Everyone at Newport RFC was saddened to hear of the death of Ian Barnard. He played for the club from 1971 until 1979 making 134 appearances. He was in the team that beat Cardiff in the 1977 Cup-Final and won the Man-of-the-Match award. That was some achievement for a second row forward. ‘Barney’ was a big man and a real character who will be missed by everyone who knew him.
