Newport are pleased to announce the signing of Dafydd Smith, a very talented centre who has been a regular for Wales 7’s for very many years, as well as being capped in the 15 man game by Wales U20.
Newport have a few injury concerns along the back line and we felt that we might be a little bit light in terms of strength and depth. When Dafydd became available we grabbed the opportunity to bring in a player with great skills and experience. Dafydd came off the bench for his Newport debut in the win over Merthyr at Newport Stadium on Saturday
Head Coach Ty Morris is very pleased with the signing, ‘Dafydd has a very good turn of pace which allows him to comfortably play at both 13 and on the wing. He has top level experience from playing at The Blues, Wales U20’s and Wales 7’s, as well as some premiership experience at Cardiff. He will be a great addition to the backs and we are really looking forward to how Dafydd can transfer his quality 7’s skills set to the 15 game. I’m sure he will be a crowd favourite with his sleek footwork.’
