Jim Blackborow

Position: Prop

Played many seasons for Newport United . Also played for Royal Navy, Combined Services, Edinburgh Wdrs, Cross Keys and Abertillery. He was European Services Middle-weight Boxing Champion. Served in WW2 with Royal Navy and also served during Korean War.

Jim played a part in the formation of the Newport RFC former players association (FPA). Brother Ken played for Newport RFC in 1955/6. Son of Percy Blackborow, born in Pill, a stowaway on Shackleton’s “Endurance” expedition of Antartica in 1914 and survived. Died June 2006 at Newport.
