William Ewart “Bill” Tamplin was born in  Risca. Played for Abergavenny, Pontypool, Cardiff, Barbarians. Won 7 caps for Wales from Cardiff in 1947 and 1948 (3c/ 6p). Captained Wales vs Australia,1947 kicking both penalties to win 6-0. Joined Newport RFC  from Pontypool.
