The Black & Ambers saw their winning run come to an end last weekend when they were beaten by a very efficient Pontypridd team at Sardis Road.  The coaching team will have plenty to work on as they prepare the squad for the even more difficult game against Merthyr.  Whereas Ponty moved the ball wide whenever there was an opportunity Merthyr will employ the more direct route and use their powerful forwards.

All teams are finding it hard to get a victory at The Wern and Newport will need to be at their best to get anything from a good Merthyr outfit. The only loss they have suffered this season was to Aberavon early in the season.

The Newport players and coaches will have studied the video and will be working on correcting the errors from the last game but they could be without some key players as several picked up injuries on Friday.  Jon Morris is probably out for a long spell with shoulder damage others are having treatment.

Team will be selected after late fitness checks.
