Newport go into this game with a run of three wins behind them. After an almost perfect performance in North Wales they managed a steady victory at home against Bridgend and followed this with a poor game against Neath. They will need to be at their best to continue the run against a Swansea outfit which is improving with every game.
After wins against Neath and Cross Keys, Swansea have had a run of tough games, Ebbw Vale, Pontypridd, Merthyr and Llandovery, and although losing those four have put up good displays in all of them. They have a strong pack who will provide them with good set-piece ball and some big backs who will get over the gain-line. They will be looking for a win at Rodney Parade and it could be that the weather will favour them.
The Black & Ambers must not be complacent and need to get some points to maintain a good league position before facing the same four teams that their opponents lost against – and all away! The coaching team has put a lot of thought into selection and they know they need to manage the squad through a difficult month.
In the pack only Andy Mann, Mathew Reed and Kyle Tayler keep their places but Newport are able to put out a strong set of forwards. Geraint Watkin comes in at scrum half to partner Matt O’Brien with Matt McGovern taking the inside centre position after demonstrating some hard carrying at the Gnoll. Geraint O’Driscoll resumes at full-back, taking over from the impressive David Richards. Once again we have a very strong bench.
