Promising backrow forward signs for Newport

One of the strengths of our coaching team is identifying playing talent across South Wales as youngsters develop through school and then youth/academy rugby. Both Craig Warlow and Ty Morris are very good at this and put a huge amount of time into looking for potential black and amber stars of the future.

One such player identified last season was back row forward Morgan Burgess who has been putting in some consistent performances in the back row for the successful Pontypridd Youth team. When an opportunity came to see Morgan play for Newport he was drafted into the team that played Caerleon recently and impressed everyone with his strength and skills.

Ty Morris, forwards coach, commented 'after watching Morgan with Pontypridd and seeing him picking up awards, we wanted to see how he would go at senior level. His work rate is excellent for such a young man. He is a great athlete and solid in the line out. I'm really looking forward to helping him transition from youth to senior rugby. I have high hopes of him making a big impression this season.'

Welcome Morgan. Everyone at Newport RFC is looking forward to getting to know you.
