Gethin Robinson
This season's captain will be popular tight-head prop Gethin Robinson.
Gethin Marc Robinson was born in Cardiff on 5th Oct 1982 and started playing rugby at age 12 for local club Pentrych. He attended Radyr Comprehensive School and played for Cardiff Schools. Gethin joined Newport Youth at age 17 having played his first year of youth for Cardiff and made his debut for Newport Youth vs Cardiff Youth - a match that Newport won.
He made his official Newport RFC debut as a rep on 25 Apr 2003 at Cardiff. Gethin is the nephew of ex-Newport scrum half Alun Billinghurst. He was also loaned to Pontypool and helped them win Division 1 in 2002/3. Gethin was given a Newport Gwent Dragons Development contract in 2004/5. He has played for Wales U16, U 21, Dragons A ,Dragons (47 apps 2003-11).
Newport RFC 100th app 2006/7 and 200th 2010/1. Gethin is strong and mobile and so often the corner stone of the Newport scrum. He was sadly missed last seasoin when injury limited him to just 30 mins play. To date he has made 209 official appearances and this season should see him reach the Top 50 of all time player appearances.
Gethin said that he was “proud and honoured to be selected as Newport RFC captain”.
