The Gwent Premier Select XV - made up of players from Bedwas, Cross Keys and Newport RFC gained a surprise but throroughly deserved win at Rodney Parade on Saturday August 4th 2012. They more than held their own up front and behind where Bedwas No 10 Richard Powell scored all the Gwent side's points.
Gwent XV led 13-0 at HT through a converted try and 2 penaties to a try by Tom Brown and a conversion and penalty by Steffan Jones. The only score in the 2nd half was a penalty by Powell before he left the field.
The Gwent side held out for a deserved 16-10 win.
Newport players Geraint O'Driscoll, Alan Awcock, Adam Davies, Elliot Frewen, Rhys Downes, Andrew Quick and Craig Attwell all played their part in the win.
