Death of former Newport RFC player

Pill born Reg made his Newport RFC debut at the age of just 17yrs 2mths in Sept 1936 vs Monmouthshire League. He later played for Lydney.

With advent of war he joined 158 (Welsh) Field Ambulance (5th Infantry division) and then Red Devils 1st airborne division and was captured at Arnheim. He was sent to Stalag 12b where he managed to escape.

Interestingly his son Richard played for Monmouthshire Schools U18 at Rodney Parade with David Burcher, Bob Guilfoyle and Gareth Evans.

Reg died peacefully on 29th June 2012.
