There will be a number of familiar faces in the Black and Amber jersey next season as Newport RFC has announced that it has retained 11 players from the 2011/12 squad.
Players who will be available for head coach Sven Cronk to select his match day squad from are, loose-head prop Dai Pattison who has played more than 250 games for Newport, Andrew Brown last seasons captain and one of the most consistent hookers in the Premiership, promising hooker Dale Rogers and locks Dafydd Rosser and Adam Frampton. Other forwards who remain from last season are versatile second row / back row Sam Waldron, Carl Townsend and number 8 Hywel Stoddart who has the potential to play at professional level.
The backs who have re-signed are last season's top try scorer and wing / full back Elliot Frewen, crowd favourite Owen Broad and Alan Awcock who can play anywhere among the back three.
Speaking about the players who remain from last season, head coach Sven Cronk, said: “I am delighted that we have retained the nucleus of a good squad from last season for the challenges that lie head. The 11 players who remain from last season come with the experience of knowing what it is like to wear the black and amber jersey and play in front of a passionate Rodney Parade crowd. Preparations for the season ahead are continuing to go well, pre season training has started and there is a real energy among the players and a desire to do well this season.”
Season tickets for the 2012/13 season are available from the Rodney Parade ticket office. Under 20s can watch Newport RFC free of charge while the club has introduced a streamlined pricing structure meaning supporters pay the same rate regardless of which stand they watch matches from.
