The Project
We are creating a high-profile heritage and culture project for Newport, which will allow visitors (and residents) to find out about landmark buildings and key locations while standing in the street looking at them. It's not an App, but instead is a cleverly-designed website that works well on small screens and with touchscreen interfaces. The project will open at the end of this month with about 30 locations in the city centre as cultural/historical hotspots. One of these will be Rodney Parade Stadium.
The Visitor Experience
Visitors will find out about the scheme from four large panels at key points in the city centre, or by picking up a trail map at the visitor information centre. At each key location 'hotspot' on the trail, they will find a round disk attached to a lamppost or similar with the location code. Entering that code on their phone takes them to a set of stories (from 1-4 stories initially) about that location. We are designing the stories to have text, slideshows of images, audio clips and short video clips where this media exists.
