The club is saddened to hear of the death of former player Wilf Walbyoff. Wilf died at Weston Super Mare and condolences to the family from Newport RFC.
Wilf joined from Abertillery RFC where he had played wing. He headed both appearances and scoring in his only season 1944/5 with hat-tricks vs Bristol and Rotol (Gloucester). He left Newport RFC and joined Pontypool RFC for a short while before returning to Abertillery RFC where he was top points scorer in 1947. In 1948 he joined the Police and played for Somerset Police RFC, he also represented the British Police.
