Match Report

Newport 26 Glamorgan Wdrs 20 (HT: 11-6)

Newport got a welcome win but only after being given a tough struggle against bottom of table Wanderers.  It certainly wasn’t vintage Newport but Cronk is just happy to be trying to make improvements after securing four more points.

“A win is a win and we probably should have put them away after creating a few clear chances in the first half,” he said. “There is a lot to work on but, as I said to the squad earlier in the week, I would rather do that having won the game.”

Newport suffered another injury blow against the Wanderers when openside Rhys Jenkins damaged ligaments in his right ankle. The 20-year-old was struck in the face when attempting to charge down a clearance kick and landed awkwardly. The flanker will be out of action for six weeks.
