Newport Back In Cup Action

Newport return to action on Sunday with Aberavon our opponents in the National Cup competition. The Wizards arrive at Rodney Parade after a big win, 71-3, over Championship side Skewen but they will surely know that this game will be a bit more competitive.  The last time these teams met in the Cup was in January 2015 when Newport managed a 11-10 win after trailing 8-10 at half time.  Fullback, Geraint O’Driscoll kept his nerve to kick the winning penalty and the Black and Ambers just held on for the win.

The coaching team has made some interesting decisions when selecting the match day squad.  With Chay Smith away on Wales Sevens duty, Geraint O’Driscoll moves into the outside centre position with Elliot Frewen moving to fullback. Adam Sabri takes the wing spot.  In the pack the front five looks settled with a pacey back row selected.

Newport: Nicky Boyce, Henry Palmer, Garin Harris, Joe Bartlett, Dan Partridge, Rhys Cresswell, Kyle Tayler, Alex Everett, Ryan James, Haydn Simons, Jon Morris, Tom Pascoe, Geraint O’Driscoll, Adam Sabri, Elliot Frewen.

Replacements: Evan Whitson, Matt Prosser, Tom Piper, Josh Reid, Andrew Mann, Ryan Bates, Harri Lang, Curtis Ayling
