After a solid performance and a five point win against Bargoed on Tuesday, The Black & Ambers travel down the M4 to The Talbot Athletic Ground to face Aberavon. They will be hoping they can get the win as they did on their last visit when they were victorious in the National Cup semi-final against Llandovery.
Aberavon just lost to Pontypridd last time out and will be looking for the win to get their season back on track. They are in the bottom half of the table but they are a better team than their league position suggests. Results have gone the way of the home side for the last few seasons but matches between these sides are always entertaining. Both teams play a fast wide game and with conditions just about perfect we can expect more of the same.
Newport will try to focus on this game but it will be difficult not to think about the big game coming up. They are almost certainly going to rest key players and give the squad a good testing. They might also give some players returning from injury some game time. Squad will be selected after Thursday’s training session and fitness checks.
Club captain, Rhys Jenkins, makes his first start after a long term injury in the number eight position. Another player returning after a long time out is prop, Chris Coleman, who is among the replacements. Newport field several players on permit as they decide not to risk key players but still put out a useful squad.
Newport: Matt Prosser, Evan Whitson, Nicky Thomas, James Little, Andrew Mann, Morgan Burgess, Joe Cullimore, Rhys Jenkins, Ryan Bates, Haydn Simons, Andy Evans, Brendon Huntley, Haydn Palmer, Curtis Ayling, Cameron Ellis.
Replacements: Henry Palmer, Nicky Boyce, Chris Coleman, Joe Bartlett, Arron Atkins, Owen Davies, Adam Sabri, Geraint O'Driscoll.
Referee: Rob Price
AR1: Jamie Morgan
