Games between these teams are never dull. In September the Black & Ambers hung on for a 29-27 victory at Rodney Parade but the return game at Sardis Road was a thriller. Newport were down 30 – 12 at half time and 47 - 24 after 70 minutes but as the game became loose the Newport runners started to exploit the space and came back to 47 – 45 in front of a hushed home crowd. A fantastic result and two bonus points to the losing team.
Ponty are sitting in 5th place in the Premier League and while most clubs would be happy with that they will have their sights set on finishing higher. They have also lost their last two games and they will certainly be trying to end that losing streak.
The home side have won their last five games but the nature of the wins in the last two games, against Ebbw Vale and Llanelli, will not have pleased the coaching team. Perhaps it’s the sign of a good side that they can play below standard and still get the win. They will have to be at their best to continue the winning run.
John Lavender and Morgan Burgess move up to starting fifteen after their return from injury. Adan Sabri moves into the centre following Chay Smith's call up to Wales Sevens duty. Elliot Frewen moves to full back to cover the unavailable Geraint O'Driscoll
